Developers often moan and groan about Apple’s roadmap, but the truth is that only Apple knows what’s coming and how best to deal with it.

Could Apple have allowed custom watch faces prior to this? Certainly. But one has only to look at the changes made to all of the faces for Apple Watch 5’s “always on” support to suspect that pretty much every custom face made beforehand would have been broken the second Watch 5 shipped.

And that’s not Apple’s way at all.
