Distribution costs may be "minimal" (they're actually not, but let's go with that), but if you go to a major news website you're "paying" for stories written by journalists and edited by editors.
Distribution costs may be "minimal" but creation costs definitely are not. Those journalists and editors cost money, and, like everyone else, they have to pay for rent and food and clothing and transportation and everything else.
The marginal cost to distribute a copy of Avenger's Endgame may be pennies, but it cost $350-400 million or so to make.
Good content doesn't just appear out of thin air. It costs money, and that money has to come from somewhere.
