Find it interesting that you compare a Star Wars series against the MCU movies.
A series gives you time to get acquainted with a character and grow with them. A movie, on the other hand, tends to be about a single event.
Try looking at a MCU series like Ms. Marvel or She-Hulk or, better yet, Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Those are much more personalized and while there are threats, they're also about character arcs.
I agree, however, that we need more stories where characters face off against oppression, or greed, or injustice.
Or even some that demonstrate just how ineffective a "superpower" is against, say, a Wall Street private equity firm that specializes in buying up nursing homes and raises prices while at the same time gutting care for its residents.
