Have you forgotten that HFCVs need decently sized batteries as well? Plus the resources (including precious metals) needed to produce the fuel cells?

You mentioned mining rare earth minerals (notably cobalt), but the majority of new EVs have switched to LFP tech that doesn't need it. And sodium-ion is starting to hit as well.

Actually, when the battery, fuel cell, pumps, tanks, electric motors, and so on are factored into the equation, you're pretty much equal across the board.

Other than the fact that with HFCVs you're increasing maintenance costs.
