I once bumped into a former high school classmate when I was back visiting my home town. We knew each other, but had never talked or dated while in school.

We chatted for a bit and then I rather sheepishly told her that, back in the day, I'd had a bit of a crush on her.

She was shocked, and then blurted out, "But why didn't you TALK TO ME???"

She'd just assumed I wasn't interested.
