I certainly don't think it's a fad. Then again, I also don't think it's currently very reliable or trustworthy.

Saw an article earlier today on a company that wants to use AI to convert COBOL code to something more modern.

They claim that that the conversion itself is extremely quick. They also point out, however, that it only gets you to 80%-90%, and a developer is needed to, you know, wrap things up and find out what the automated conversion process got wrong...
