I strongly suspect that there will be a LOT of projects attempted. The promise of presumed savings will simply be too great for upper management to ignore.
Whether or not they're going to be successful is another question.
I once worked for a company that provided a service for companies that wanted to outsource that work, and they also provided tools for those who'd once outsourced it and wanted to bring it in-house.
It was a continuing cycle, and both the outsourcings and in-house groups were convinced that they could save money by switching sides.
Everyone is always convinced that the grass is greener on the other side, and I expect this to be the same.
