As is, he couldn't drive the Lotus properly and stopped to figure things out. She walked over and asked if he wanted a date. He said what he actually wanted was directions to Beverly Hills... for which she said she'd give him for $5. He said she couldn't charge for directions; she said the price went up to $10, and things proceeded from there.

That was the "meet cute", the cute "chance" situation in a romcon where the two first meet.

And it wasn't his Lotus. ;)

If you watch the intro again you'll see the progression was semi-logical, albeit unlikely.
