I'm not sure your explanation regarding the difference between prismatic cells and cylindrical cells is correct. Does that hold when both are using the same chemistry? And for that matter, does that hold for the pack?
From what I've seen, packs that use cylindrical cells are less energy dense than prismatic packs, as more material is used per cell and there's ore wasted space between cells.
Tesla's decision to build battery gigafactories was hailed at the time, but I've often wondered if it was premature. Battery tech is evolving rapidly, and from what I've seen LFP is better from a materials standpoint, an operating standpoint, and from a cost standpoint.
And then there's tech like Sodium-Ion that are just starting to appear in new vehicles.
