It takes 3x the energy to produce hydrogen.

If I use electricity to produce hydrogen, store it, and then convert it back to to electricity in a fuel cell then losses are around 70%.

And that ignores the real question: if we don't have enough capacity to produce the electric power we need now, then just where is all of the extra energy needed to produce hydrogen going to come from?
