Jolly himself claimed that the inspiration for this performance was actually a 17th-century painting titled “The Feast of the Gods” by Dutch artist Jan van Bijlert, which depicts the Greek gods of Olympus crowded around a long table.
That said, I believe that the comparison to a Rorschach Test is spot on. Some people will look at it and see what they want to see, regardless of the creator's original intentions.
