Just got a new iPad mini 6 almost strictly for reading and love it. I would say that it's best for reading fiction and certain kinds of non-fiction like biographies.

If you need to read technical books with charts, graphs, code, or whatnot, or if you're planning on also doing a lot of web browsing with it, then I might suggest you look into the new, somewhat larger iPad Air.
