Karen is context. One can have a problem and politely but firmly ask to have it resolved.

But when it escalates into screaming and perhaps more to the point--belittlement, then one has stepped over the line.

Which really speaks to motive. Are they attempting to solve the problem, or are they attempting to put someone in their "place"?

I'd also include people who manufacture situations or complaints simply to gain additional benefits or perks.
