Many EOL automotive cells are still good for grid storage.
And there's already a commodities market for "black mass", namely crushed battery cells from which lithium, nickel, cobalt, and other materials can be recycled and reused to make new cells. Which in turn lowers the need to mine for new material.
Unlike that crude stuff which is extracted, pumped, refined, and then burned... once.
Finally, companies like CATL have just started shipping the next generation of LFP batteries guaranteed for 600,000 miles.
Or in other words, the rest of the car will probably fall apart before the battery dies.
