Many transitions appear to occur quickly, simply because they're binary. You're a slave... right up until the day you're not.

You're gay and don't have the right to marry the person you love... until you do.

You're a teenage girl with the right to an abortion due to rape or incest... until that right disappears.

Then again, the transition may appear be quick, but how many years of struggle did it take before the transition actually occurred?

How may years did it take for suffrage to result in women's right to vote? After slavery ended, how many years did it take for segregation to be outlawed?

If you're on one side of the fence, you might be worried about the speed of change. But when you're on the other, you're probably also worrying about the speed of change... or the lack thereof.
