Not sure I find your comparison all that convincing. Mercedes pretty much dominates the luxury car market and, if I remember correctly, they're also pretty much the only manufacturer other than Tesla who actually makes a profit on their EVs.

Ford, Chevy, and Stellantis are much, much more at risk, both from Tesla and from China (BYD, etc.).
