Of course you compare an electric vehicle to an ICE vehicle. What would you compare it to, a horse and buggy?

And there are plenty of comparison points: reduced maintenance, reduced number of brake changes, no oil changes, charging at home is more convenient and usually much cheaper.

EVs are quieter, faster, are smoother, and more efficient, wasting less energy on heat and noise.

ICE vehicles are smelly, leaky, noisy, and dangerous to operate in enclosed spaces.

And then there's the elephant in the room: ICE emissions and pollution, and how EVs produce less.

All of which is not to say that, if possible, other alternatives like your bicycle, mass transit, etc., should be provided and encouraged.

But.

In the US we've spend the last century designing our cites around urban sprawl. Like it or not, that's where many of our homes are and where people live.

You're simply NOT going to solve sprawl, especially in western cities, with mass transit. And especially not in the near future.

As such, some form of personal transportation must exist. And if so, then it benefits everyone to make it as efficient, and as clean, as possible.
