One thing I never understood was why software "engineering" doesn't require certification and testing.

Become a doctor or lawyer, heck, become a civil or electrical engineer, and one needs to prove a certain level of competency in the field.

But being a programmer? Nah. Just take a bootcamp or two and hang out your shingle.
