So one thing I've been wondering about Tesla's latest approach to constructing its cars: Are they quickly becoming the biggest disposable e-waste item you can buy?
It would seem that structurally integrating the battery pack into the frame would make that battery extremely difficult to repair, replace or recycle.
The Gigapress is also a marvel to be sure. But since the front and rear ends are now one single piece, are you one semi-serious accident away from completely totaling your vehicle?
Or looking at a repair bill that's easily a third of the price of the original vehicle? And when does that translate into higher insurance premiums?
It's a serious question. We've seen what tightly integrated, non-replaceable components have done to mobile phones and computers.
Is Tesla next?
