Sounds like a traditional evangelical approach to the problem. "I want to save you. But since you're beyond redemption I find that I'm forced to kill you...."

As has been pointed out, it's possible to steer a ship from the bridge without the need to throw all of the engineers, crew, passengers and cargo overboard.

I also find the "people can be replaced" comment to be indicative of a traditional capitalistic mindset.

"They're too tired? Overworked? Broken? Sick? Unhappy?"

"Too bad. Just fire 'em and get some more."

Edited: My original comment referred to a “late-stage-capitalism mindset” but I realized later on that I was incorrect. Capitalism has always been that way.
