There's one and only one reason why the "insurrection" failed, and that's because Mike Pence didn't let himself be hustled away when the protesters stormed the Capital building. He insisted on staying, and once the protestoers had been cleared from the building he did his duty and he certified the election results.

Had he left, I have no doubt that the vote tallies would have disappeared and in the resulting disarray another election would have been demanded.

It's only because of Pence and a few Secretaries of State who did their jobs and didn't cave in to demands that they ignore certain votes and/or "find" a few more votes for Trump that the man is (currently) out of office.
