This underscores the opportunities that women have today compared to a time when, for example, women couldn't even have a credit card in their own name.

Only issue I have with this single statistic is that it somewhat belies the point that there are quite a few women in that age group are in relationships and some even have families.

It's just that the legal structure of marriage is absent and that many are deciding to put things off until later.

But THAT said, the real kicker is that married or not, childless, or not, I think a lot of this really comes down to socioeconomic issues and opportunities... or the lack thereof.

The following NHS National Survey of Family Growth report illustrates that fact dramatically with a chart showing age at first birth for those w/o a HS education, those with, some college, and no college.

That's 96% for under 20 to 29 w/o HS, to 56% with college. (22% under 24 with BS.)
