To be fair, Musk made his investment in 4680 NCM cells years ago when LFP wasn't really a proven technology.

Today, production difficulties with the 4680 stunted its growth and LFP's can be made with similar densities, that last longer, and that are cheaper to boot.

The 4680 "gigafactory" investment was a risk.. and not all risks pay off.
