Well... they do have a choice. The standard, as I understand it, requires all mobile devices with a charging port to use USB-C.

But what if the device has no port and charges via MagSafe? It's not likely, but I could see a scenario where the iPhone 15 Pro gets USB-C while the non-Pro iPhone 15 has its port eliminated in favor of wireless charging and data transfer.
