What shutting down? In most places they're just asking people to be careful, distance where possible, and wear masks when in public.
Now, Texas and Florida, both strong Republican states with Republican Governers, ARE in fact shutting down again because hospital ICUs are once again filling up... and that mostly because the people there failed to do the simple things mentioned above.
Last Monday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell implored “each family, each small business, each employer, and all levels of government to apply common sense” to combat the spread of the coronavirus.
“To name just one example,” he said, “We must have no stigma, none, about wearing masks when we leave our homes and come near other people. Wearing simple face coverings is not about protecting ourselves, it is about protecting everyone we encounter.”
Florida Sen. Marco Rubio (R) said last week that everyone should “wear a damn mask.”
Tennessee Sen. Lamar Alexander (R), called for the depoliticization of mask usage during a Wednesday hearing with Anthony Fauci. “Unfortunately,” Alexander said, “this simple lifesaving practice has become part of a political debate."
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said Monday that “every Republican has a responsibility” to wear a mask. House Republican, Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney, tweeted a photo of her father, the former vice president, wearing a mask alongside the hashtag “#realmenwearmasks.”
In Georgia, Gov. Brian Kemp, embarked on a statewide “wear a mask” tour ahead of the 4th of July holiday weekend.
When the Republican leadership, Senators, and State Governors are all asking people to wear masks... I don't know about you, but I'm beginning to see some sort of pattern here.
